Align Technology — About

Align Technology, Inc. is an American medical device company that designs and manufactures 3D digital intraoral scanners and Invisalign clear aligners used in orthodontic and restorative dental workflows. Founded in 1997 by Zia Chishti and Kelsey Wirth, the company is headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker ALGN, and is a component of the S&P 500. It received FDA clearance to market the Invisalign system in 1998 and went public in 2001.

The company offers an integrated suite of proprietary technologies and services for patients, orthodontists, general dental practitioners, and dental laboratories through brands including ClinCheck, Invisalign, Vivera, SmartForce, SmartTrack, SmileView, iTero, Orthocad, and exocad. Its 2020 acquisition of Germany-based exocad Global Holdings (for approximately €376 million / $420 million) expanded Align's reach into restorative dentistry.

Doctors in over 100 markets worldwide use the Invisalign System and iTero scanners, and over 22 million patients have benefited from these solutions. Align employs roughly 21,000 people across the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Israel, China, and other countries, with aligner production in Juarez, Mexico, scanner manufacturing in Israel and China, and treatment planning services in Costa Rica. In 2024 it reported revenue of about US$4.00 billion, operating income of US$608 million, and net income of US$421 million, led by CEO Joe Hogan and CFO John F. Morici.

As a company built on digital scanning, CAD/CAM software, and computer-driven treatment planning, Align operates at the intersection of healthcare and digital technology, making innovations in this space directly relevant to its core business.
