Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM)

A national data-driven maternal safety and quality improvement initiative.

Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM)

The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) is a national program funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and operated by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). It works with a network of partners, including AWHONN, ACNM, ASTHO, NASTAD, Family Voices, the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

AIM focuses on reducing maternal mortality and severe morbidity, with a specific emphasis on addressing racial disparities through an equity-focused approach. The organization develops and implements "Patient Safety Bundles," which are collections of evidence-based practices designed to improve clinical outcomes when implemented together. These bundles cover critical areas such as obstetric hemorrhage, severe hypertension, sepsis, opioid use disorder, and respectful maternity care.

The initiative supports all 50 U.S. states and territories through state-based teams and maternal health collaboratives. Innovation in this space is relevant to AIM as it seeks to standardize and scale evidence-based safety protocols across diverse birth facilities to ensure safer care for all pregnant individuals.
