American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is the world's leading professional organization for chemical engineers, founded on June 22, 1908, when 19 chemical engineers met at the Engineers' Club in Philadelphia to establish the discipline as distinct from chemistry and mechanical engineering. Headquartered in the United States, AIChE serves more than 60,000 members across more than 110 countries, with over 350 active student chapters at universities worldwide.

AIChE supports its members across core process industries and emerging fields such as biotechnology, translational medicine, and sustainability through technical divisions, forums, and programming at its meetings. The organization publishes five peer-reviewed journals—including AIChE Journal, Biotechnology Progress, and Process Safety Progress—in partnership with John Wiley & Sons, as well as the flagship member magazine Chemical Engineering Progress.
