British multinational engineering and design firm shaping the built environment.

Wikipedia — Arup Group

Arup (legally Arup Group Limited) is a British multinational professional services firm headquartered in London. It provides engineering, architecture, design, planning, project management and consulting services across all aspects of the built environment, describing itself as a global collective of designers, engineers, planners, project managers and technical experts dedicated to supporting sustainable development.

Founded in 1946 in London by Sir Ove Arup, a Danish-Norwegian engineer, the firm began as a structural engineering practice called Ove N. Arup Consulting Engineers before expanding into a multidisciplinary organisation. It rose to global prominence through landmark projects, including the structural design of the Sydney Opera House and work on the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Arup is notable for its independent, employee-trust ownership model — the firm is owned in trust on behalf of its staff, which underpins its independence and pursuit of technical excellence. It employs roughly 16,000–18,000 people globally and recorded revenue of £2.2bn for the 2023/24 financial year. Under restructured governance, Group Chair Jerome Frost OBE steps into a newly created CEO role from April 2025, while Hilde Tonne joins as Non-Executive Chair of the new Arup Group Limited Board.

With a strong emphasis on sustainable development and a multidisciplinary footprint across the built environment, Arup is well positioned for innovations that advance sustainable, technically excellent design and engineering.
