BetBlocker

BetBlocker is a registered charity founded in Scotland in 2017 (formally recognised by OSCR in August 2019 and approved as a UK charity in November 2019) that provides a completely free gambling-blocking tool to anyone wishing to restrict their access to gambling websites and apps. The organisation is led by Founder and Trustee Duncan Garvie and is funded entirely through grants and donations, predominantly from gambling industry businesses, enabling it to offer its service at no cost to end users.

The core product blocks more than 327,500 gambling websites and over 1,500 gambling apps across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux, and Fire OS. Users can set restrictions lasting anywhere from 24 hours to five years, and the software operates anonymously — no account or personal information is required. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) officially recognises BetBlocker as one of only six charities listed under its 'prevention' heading for responsible gambling.

BetBlocker has expanded internationally, incorporating a U.S. arm as a 501(c) non-profit in Delaware. In 2025, the Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) — representing approximately 90% of the legal U.S. sports betting industry by handle — partnered with BetBlocker to promote its software across the United States, and the Colorado Lottery integrated BetBlocker into its responsible gambling resources. The charity was also named Clarion Gaming's charity partner for 2025, with a presence at major industry events including ICE Barcelona and iGB Live.

Innovations in responsible gambling technology, self-exclusion tools, or harm-reduction platforms are directly relevant to BetBlocker given its mission to provide accessible, device-level blocking software free of charge at global scale.
