American tier-one automotive supplier of combustion, hybrid, and electric propulsion technologies
Wikipedia — BorgWarnerBorgWarner Inc. (NYSE: BWA) is an American automotive and e-mobility supplier headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan. As a tier-one supplier of propulsion technologies, it develops and manufactures solutions to improve the performance, efficiency, and environmental qualities of combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicle powertrains. It is one of the 25 largest automotive suppliers in the world.
Founded in 1928 through the merger of pioneering companies including Borg & Beck, Marvel-Schebler, Warner Gear, and Mechanics Universal Joint—initially focused on transmissions and gear systems—the company was formerly known as Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. Its product range spans turbochargers, eBoosters, timing and emissions systems, thermal management solutions, ignition technology, powertrain sensors, battery modules, battery charging systems, power electronics, control modules, software, and mechanical components for transmissions and torque management.
BorgWarner sells primarily to original equipment manufacturers of light, commercial, and off-highway vehicles, as well as tier-one suppliers and the aftermarket. In 2024, 23% of revenue came from Volkswagen and Ford, with other major customers including Stellantis and General Motors. The company reported 2024 revenue of US$14.1 billion, operating income of US$546 million, net income of US$338 million, total assets of US$14.0 billion, and 38,300 employees, operating 92 locations across 24 countries. Joseph F. Fadool serves as President and CEO.
The company is balancing its legacy combustion business—which contributes more than 80% of group revenue—with a transition toward becoming an electric-vehicle-centric parts supplier. This strategic shift toward electrification makes innovation in propulsion, batteries, and power electronics directly relevant to its business.
