Bundesagentur für Arbeit

Germany's Federal Employment Agency responsible for employment placement and unemployment insurance.

Bundesagentur für Arbeit

The Bundesagentur für Arbeit (BA) is the public authority in Germany tasked with employment placement, career and qualification counseling, and the administration of unemployment insurance and related benefits. Headquartered in Nuremberg, it operates under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and is governed by Book III of the German Social Code (SGB III).

The organization maintains a national network of local employment agencies and Jobcenters, which handle placement and basic income support. It also operates the Zentrale Auslands- und Fachvermittlung (ZAV), a specialized unit focused on international and skilled-worker placement.

For employers, the BA provides essential services including public job and apprenticeship portals, labor-market statistics, and advisory services for hiring and funding programs. This makes the agency a critical partner for businesses managing recruitment, apprenticeships, or skilled-worker immigration pipelines.
