ByteDance Official Site

Founded in March 2012 by Zhang Yiming and Rubo Liang, ByteDance is a privately held technology company headquartered in Beijing, China. It operates a diverse portfolio of applications, most notably the international platform TikTok and its Chinese counterpart Douyin, as well as Toutiao, CapCut, Lemon8, Xigua Video, and the AI assistant Doubao.

The company operates on a massive global scale, with TikTok estimated to have between 1 billion and 1.5 billion monthly users and Douyin reporting approximately 750 million daily active users in China as of 2024. Media reports estimate its 2024 revenue at approximately US$155 billion, with private-market valuations ranging between $300B and $550B in late 2025 and 2026.

Given its focus on AI-driven content and entertainment platforms, innovations in AI are central to its business model. However, the company faces significant business risks due to ongoing US regulatory scrutiny and divestiture-related negotiations regarding TikTok.
