Unilever's global personal care brand built on real beauty, moisturising science, and body-confidence advocacy since 1957.

Unilever – Behind the brand: Dove's products, purpose and commitment to care

Dove is a personal care brand owned by British consumer goods giant Unilever. Originally launched in the US in 1957 as the Dove Beauty Bar — a mild, pH-neutral cleansing bar enriched with moisturisers, patented in the early 1950s — the brand has since expanded into body washes, facial cleansers, deodorants, shampoos, conditioners, and styling products for women, men, babies, and children.

Dove products are sold in more than 150 countries, making it one of Unilever's largest and most globally recognised brands. It holds the position of #1 dermatologist-recommended brand in the US, Canada, and France. In 2023, Dove delivered approximately €6 billion in turnover for Unilever — its highest underlying sales growth in more than a decade — and represents around 40% of Unilever's Personal Care division turnover.

Beyond products, Dove is notable for its brand-purpose work. In 2004, it launched the Campaign for Real Beauty and the Dove Self-Esteem Project, featuring real women rather than models in advertising. The Self-Esteem Project has since delivered academically verified educational resources on body confidence to over 94 million young people across more than 154 countries, with a stated goal of reaching 250 million by 2030.

Given Dove's scale in personal care, its deep dermatologist endorsement, and its mission around skin health and self-confidence, innovations in skin science, inclusive beauty, or consumer wellness are highly relevant to the brand's continued growth and purpose.
