Editora Moderna (Brazil)

Brazilian educational publisher and textbook market leader, part of Grupo Santillana

Wikipedia (Portuguese) – Editora Moderna

Editora Moderna is a São Paulo-based educational publishing company founded in 1968 by professor Ricardo Feltre. Originally focused on secondary-education textbooks, the company expanded into children's books in the 1980s and has grown into one of Brazil's leading publishers of educational literature for public and private school systems, covering early childhood through high school.

In 2001, the company was acquired by Grupo Santillana, a Spanish publishing group present in more than 22 countries and backed by Grupo Prisa. Under this ownership, Editora Moderna broadened its portfolio to include foreign-language learning titles and fiction, while maintaining rigorous content review processes carried out by in-house specialists, researchers, and collaborating teachers from across Brazil.

The company employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people and generates revenues estimated in the $100M–$250M range. Its digital offerings include apps, a teachers' portal, and downloadable books, reflecting an ongoing investment in modernising educational tools.

Editora Moderna's mission centres on producing high-quality material that contributes to improving Brazilian education. Innovations in educational content, digital learning tools, or publishing technology are directly relevant to its core business of serving teachers and students across Brazil's public and private school markets.
