The platform is used across scholarly publishing to manage the editorial workflow of academic journals, books, and other publications, covering manuscript submission, peer review, production tracking, and eCommerce.
Beyond core peer review, Editorial Manager offers added capabilities including its Enterprise Analytics Reporting (EAR) suite, which gives publishers visibility into publication data for performance tracking and informed decision-making. The system is designed for end-to-end integration, with transfer capabilities between external systems such as preprint servers, manuscript preparation services, and other peer-review platforms, and connections to downstream production systems. Aries also offers a companion production-tracking product, ProduXion Manager.
In 2018, Aries Systems was acquired by Elsevier, the global information analytics business specializing in science and health. The two companies had worked closely for nearly 20 years, with Elsevier already using Editorial Manager for many journals including its Cell Press portfolio and numerous society titles. The acquisition was announced on August 2, 2018, with Aries continuing to operate under the Elsevier umbrella.
