Endocrinologists are doctors trained in the complexities of the endocrine system and its impact on the body's internal environment. This medical specialty connects internal medicine, pediatrics, oncology, and reproductive health. These specialists diagnose and treat hormonal and metabolic disorders using laboratory tests, tissue sampling, genetic analysis, and high-resolution medical imaging. Their practice often involves performing dynamic endocrine testing, interpreting bone mineral density tests, and performing thyroid ultrasonography and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration biopsies. While some treat a broad range of endocrine disorders, others specialize in specific areas such as diabetes, infertility, or endocrine oncology. Many are also involved in basic, clinical, and translational research.
