It was founded by Professor Matthew Wood (Oxford University) and Assistant Professor Samir El Andaloussi and Dr Per Lundin (Karolinska Institutet), building on foundational exosome research from those two institutions. Dr Per Lundin currently serves as CEO, and the company employs approximately 58 people as of end-2024.
The company's core platform, ExoEdit™, uses molecular engineering, drug loading, and targeting strategies to modify extracellular vesicles (exosomes) for therapeutic delivery. The company has raised a total of $156 million across six funding rounds—the latest a Series C in February 2021—backed by investors including the Redmile Group, the Gates Foundation, and Oxford Science Enterprises.
