Individuals experiencing high anxiety

A global population segment of individuals experiencing elevated anxiety and anxiety disorders.

World Health Organization

Individuals experiencing high anxiety comprise a broad population segment ranging from those with sub-clinical symptoms to those with diagnosed anxiety disorders. According to the World Health Organization, anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders globally, affecting an estimated 5.8% of the population, or roughly 470 million people as of 2023.

In the United States, the National Institute of Mental Health estimates that 19.1% of adults had an anxiety disorder in the past year, with a higher prevalence among females (23.4%) than males (14.3%). These conditions are significant causes of disability worldwide, often interfering with relationships, school, and work.

Innovation in this space is highly relevant due to a substantial treatment gap. While effective treatments exist, only approximately 27.6% of people in need receive any treatment, and only about 9.8% receive possibly adequate treatment across both high- and low-income countries.
