Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is an American non-profit 501(c)(3) digital library founded in 1996 by Brewster Kahle and headquartered in San Francisco, California. It operates archive.org, offering free public access to collections of digitized websites, software, music, audiovisual materials, and print publications, guided by its mission of "Universal Access to All Knowledge."

Its flagship tool, the Wayback Machine, has captured more than 1 trillion web pages, preserving the ephemeral history of the internet. Beyond web archiving, the Internet Archive hosts the world's largest collection of historical software spanning 50 years of computing history, and runs Open Library, a digital lending library of over 2 million eBooks. All collected data occupies more than 70 petabytes of server space, with two copies maintained.

The organization works with more than 1,400 libraries and partners through its Archive-It program and is funded via donations, grants, and book digitization service fees. It also actively advocates for a free and open internet.
