A U.S. nonprofit, member-driven consortium providing advanced networking and identity services to the research and education community.

Internet2

Internet2 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1996 by 34 U.S. research universities. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, it serves a broad community including universities, regional state R&E networks, government agencies, and industry partners.

The organization operates a high-capacity nationwide backbone network that connects member campuses and regional networks, with peering to international partners such as GÉANT in Europe and CANARIE in Canada. Its core offerings include InCommon, a trust and identity federation for single sign-on and certificates, and NET+, a program for procuring vetted cloud services.

Governed by a member-based board of trustees, Internet2 facilitates collaboration through its membership of hundreds of U.S. universities and affiliates, as well as through events like the annual Internet2 Global Summit.
