Johnson Controls – Our Company

Johnson Controls International plc is a global technology company focused on buildings, describing itself as a world leader in smart buildings that create safe, healthy and sustainable spaces. For more than 140 years it has worked to make buildings better, now transforming them with digital technologies and services across energy efficiency, decarbonization, thermal management and mission-critical performance.

The company traces its roots to 1885, when Warren S. Johnson and a group of Milwaukee investors led by William Plankinton incorporated the Johnson Electric Service Company to manufacture, install and service automatic temperature regulation systems for buildings. The current Johnson Controls International plc was formed on September 9, 2016. It is headquartered in Cork, Ireland, trades on the NYSE under ticker JCI, is an S&P 500 component, and maintains a major North American presence in Milwaukee/Glendale, Wisconsin.

Its products and services span fire detection and suppression, security, HVAC, energy solutions and integrated infrastructure. Building automation solutions include Metasys, Facility Explorer and HVAC Controls, helping building managers modernize operations, reduce risk, and increase efficiency and sustainability. It serves industries such as healthcare, education, data centers, and government facilities.

In the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025, the company had annual revenue of $23.60 billion (2.81% growth), operates in more than 150 countries, employs roughly 87,000 people, and reports its solutions are in 90% of the world's most iconic buildings. Joakim Weidemanis serves as CEO. In 2025 the company sharpened its focus on commercial building solutions, including completing the sale of its residential and light commercial HVAC business. As a building-technology leader, innovation in this space directly informs its core offerings.
