MMV – About Us (mmv.org)Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) is a not-for-profit public-private partnership established as a foundation in Switzerland in 1999. Its mission is to reduce the burden of malaria in disease-endemic countries through the discovery, development, and delivery of accessible and affordable medicines to treat, prevent, and eliminate the disease.
MMV works end-to-end across the antimalarial drug pipeline and, together with partners, manages a portfolio of over 65 projects — described as the largest portfolio of antimalarial R&D and access projects ever assembled, including ten compounds in clinical development targeting unmet needs such as medicines for children, pregnant women, and relapsing malaria. Since its founding, MMV has helped bring 19 malaria medicines to market that have treated or protected more than 1.3 billion people worldwide, and an independent study estimated that its supported drugs averted approximately 1.6 million deaths and 87 million DALYs over a 23-year period on a total investment of US$2.3 billion.
MMV is recognised as a leading product development partnership (PDP) and receives funding from government agencies, private foundations, international organizations, corporations, and private individuals. It is governed by a board of directors and advised by specialist committees covering scientific, access, and safety dimensions.
Given MMV's focus on novel drug discovery, large-scale clinical development, and global health access programmes, innovations in areas such as drug delivery, diagnostics, data analytics, or supply-chain optimisation are directly relevant to its core mandate.
