Mercedes-Benz

German luxury and commercial vehicle automaker, one of the world's leading car manufacturers.

Mercedes-Benz Group 2024 Annual Report

Mercedes-Benz is a German luxury and commercial vehicle automotive brand. Its corporate parent is Mercedes-Benz Group AG, a German multinational automotive corporation headquartered in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, and one of the world's leading car manufacturers. The consumer-vehicle business operates as Mercedes-Benz AG, a subsidiary established in 2019 and headquartered in Stuttgart, producing consumer luxury and commercial vehicles badged as Mercedes-Benz.

The brand traces its origins to automotive pioneers Karl Benz (Benz & Cie., founded 1883) and Gottlieb Daimler with Wilhelm Maybach (Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, founded 1890), who signed an Agreement of Mutual Interest on 1 May 1924, with Daimler-Benz formed in 1926. The corporate name evolved over the decades: DaimlerChrysler upon the 1998 Chrysler acquisition, Daimler AG after divesting Chrysler in 2007, and Mercedes-Benz Group in February 2022, when its commercial vehicle segment was spun off as the independent Daimler Truck.

The Group's marques include Mercedes-Benz for cars and vans (with Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach) and Smart. The high-performance subsidiary Mercedes-AMG GmbH is headquartered in Affalterbach, Germany. The Group has offices in 93 locations worldwide, manufactures vehicles in 17 countries on five continents, and is publicly listed on the Frankfurt and Stuttgart stock exchanges under the ticker MBG.

In FY2024, the Group had a workforce of around 175,000 and sold around 2.4 million vehicles, with revenues of €145.6 billion (down from €152.4 billion in 2023). As a global leader in luxury and automotive manufacturing operating at this scale, innovations in this space are highly relevant to its products, operations, and competitiveness.
