The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is a central government body in India tasked with formulating and administering policies to increase the mobility and efficiency of the country's road transport system. The ministry is divided into two wings: Roads and Transport, and operates with a significant annual budget estimated at ₹3,09,000 crore for 2026–27.

Under the leadership of Minister Nitin Gadkari, the ministry has overseen the construction of over 90,000 km of national highways and 30,000 km of new roads. It manages the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is responsible for a road network exceeding 50,000 km of National Highways.

Innovation in road safety is a critical priority for MoRTH due to high accident and fatality rates. The ministry has introduced a draft notification requiring all new vehicles, including motorcycles and scooters, to be equipped with factory-installed C-V2X On-Board Units, establishing a global first in Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) mandates.
