NCPG – About Us (ncpgambling.org)The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) is an American nonprofit organization founded in 1972 in Washington, D.C. It is the only national nonprofit dedicated to mitigating gambling-related harm through advocacy, awareness, and policy development. The organization was co-founded by Msgr. Joseph A. Dunne and Dr. Robert Custer, and it takes no position for or against legalized gambling.
NCPG's mission is to lead state and national stakeholders in developing comprehensive policy and programs for all those affected by problem gambling. It operates at the national level while a network of state affiliates handles state and local outreach, connecting individuals to community resources in prevention, education, treatment, and enforcement.
Key programs include the National Problem Gambling Helpline™ (1-800-MY-RESET), a free, confidential, 24/7 service, and the Agility Grants program—the first national grant initiative in problem gambling prevention, having distributed over $1 million between 2022 and 2024, with another $1.5 million planned for 2025–2027. In 2024, approximately 20 million Americans showed at least one indicator of problematic gambling behavior.
