National Geographic Education
The education arm of the National Geographic Society dedicated to geo-education.
National Geographic EducationNational Geographic Education is the educational division of the National Geographic Society, a nonprofit scientific and educational organization founded in 1888 in Washington, D.C. It focuses on "geo-education," which aims to build geographic knowledge and problem-solving skills for students, educators, and families.
The organization provides a variety of K-12 and informal learning resources, including standards-aligned lesson plans, the MapMaker interactive mapping tool developed with Esri, and Explorer Classroom live video sessions. It also offers professional development through Educator Certification and publishes classroom magazines.
As a core pillar of the National Geographic Society alongside exploration and conservation, the division leverages the Society's history of funding over 14,000 Explorer grants. It operates independently from the for-profit National Geographic media business owned by The Walt Disney Company.
