NHS Property Services
UK government-owned company managing NHS property and estates across England
NHS Property Services – Official WebsiteNHS Property Services Limited (NHSPS) is a company owned by the Department of Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom. It was established in April 2013 following the Health and Social Care Act 2012, when strategic health authorities and primary care trusts were abolished; all properties not transferred to GP-led commissioning groups were handed to NHSPS. The organisation now owns and manages approximately 3,000 buildings, representing around 10% of the total NHS estate.
NHSPS provides strategic estates services including facilities management, space management, and property development. Its customers include Integrated Care Boards, NHS Trusts, and GP practices. Headquartered in London, the organisation employs between 5,001 and 10,000 people across 16 locations.
In 2023/24, NHSPS delivered cost efficiencies of £71 million (a 55% increase year-on-year) and over £150 million of value opportunities for the wider NHS. Its Healthy Places programme progressed 250 projects, with 70 completed on site. The organisation has also reduced its carbon footprint by 18% since launching its Green Plan in 2021/22 and published its first Climate Related Financial Disclosure Report.
NHSPS operates under a refreshed strategy focused on three pillars: delivering a better estate fit for the future, providing excellent customer service, and unlocking value for money. Innovations in property management, sustainability, and healthcare infrastructure are directly relevant to its core mission of enabling excellent patient care across the NHS estate.
