Pediatric Orthodontists

Pediatric orthodontists are dental specialists dedicated to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities in younger populations. They focus on correcting tooth and jaw misalignments, which can impact a child's facial shape, appearance, and overall health.

These professionals undergo two to three years of specialized education beyond dental school. The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), founded in 1900, serves as the leading professional body for the specialty, representing nearly 19,000 members across the United States, Canada, and abroad.

In some clinical settings, such as hospitals, pediatric orthodontic care is integrated into multidisciplinary teams, such as Craniofacial Teams, to provide comprehensive care. The AAO recommends that children receive their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7.
