Premium Aquaculture Limited (Nigeria)

Premium Aquaculture Limited (PAL) is a Nigerian fish-farming enterprise focused on the commercial production of African catfish and tilapia. Incorporated in Nigeria on 09 March 2014 (Registration Number 1213996) with its registered office at 223/225 Moshood Abiola Way, Iganmu, Lagos, it describes itself as one of the leading producers of premium tilapia and catfish in the country, operating a fish breeding farm alongside processing and storage facilities.

PAL is a subsidiary of Stallion Group and is described as the largest tilapia producer in Nigeria. The venture was launched to support Nigeria's domestic fish supply goals, beginning, according to managing director Prakash Aildasani, as a vision to establish a world-class fish farming facility in Nigeria.

The company runs operations across Lagos and Ogun states. At its Epe, Lagos farm it began catfish production in more than 15 large earthen ponds out of a planned 90, while tilapia is the focus at the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority site in Abeokuta. It has invested in a fish hatchery, 100 cages, a fish feed mill, and a processing facility, with an investment portfolio of around $100 million and targets of 4,500 and 15,000 metric tonnes of catfish and tilapia respectively (more than 20,000 tonnes overall in the coming years). PAL plans to directly employ about 500 rural youths and indirectly support more than 1,500.

PAL is a key partner in introducing improved tilapia genetics to Nigeria. In March 2022, WorldFish announced a legal agreement with PAL for the transfer of Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia (GIFT) to Nigeria, with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID collaborating. WorldFish and PAL established a central breeding population and three satellite hatcheries across Delta, Ogun, and Nasarawa states to address the underdeveloped tilapia value chain and limited access to high-quality fish seed.
