Priory Group
The UK's largest private mental health care and addiction rehabilitation provider
Priory Group – About UsPriory Group is the largest private provider of mental health services in the United Kingdom, founded in 1980. The group offers treatment and support for more than 70 conditions — including mental illness, addiction, eating disorders, neurological injuries, and learning and behavioural disorders — operating across more than 500 sites with over 7,000 beds and a workforce of over 12,000 colleagues. Its flagship facility, Priory Hospital Roehampton, is particularly well known for celebrity addiction treatment.
Priory provides services both privately and in partnership with the NHS, covering acute and secure psychiatric care, addiction treatment, neuro-rehabilitation, and residential and supported living for adults with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, and autism. More than 86% of its sites are rated 'Good' or better on independent quality ratings.
On the ownership side, Priory was acquired by Acadia Healthcare for £1.3 billion in 2016, then sold to Waterland Private Equity for £1.1 billion in 2021. It is now part of MEDIAN Group, a pan-European mental health and rehabilitation provider that also includes MEDIAN Kliniken in Germany, with 400 facilities across Germany, the UK, and Spain, over 31,000 employees, more than 25,000 beds, and €2.3 billion in revenue in 2024.
Innovations in mental health care delivery, data-driven treatment, digital therapeutics, or rehabilitation technology are directly relevant to Priory given its scale, its evidence-based care mandate within MEDIAN Group, and its dual role serving both private patients and NHS-commissioned services across hundreds of UK sites.
