Sarvam AI
Indian AI company building sovereign large language models and multilingual AI systems for India's 22 official languages.
Sarvam AI — WikipediaSarvam AI is an artificial intelligence company headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, founded in August 2023 by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, both formerly associated with AI4Bharat at IIT Madras. The company's mission is to build the bedrock of Sovereign AI for India, developing full-stack AI solutions — including speech-to-text, text-to-speech, translation, and conversational agents — across 22 Indian languages for governments, enterprises, and nonprofits.
Sarvam's technology portfolio includes Sarvam 2B, India's first open-source 2B-parameter Indic LLM trained on 4 trillion tokens, as well as the more recent Sarvam-30B and flagship 105B-parameter "Indus" model unveiled in February 2026. Its enterprise AI agent platform, Arya, supports private cloud, on-premise, hybrid, and air-gapped deployments with SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and DPDP compliance. The company has approximately 262 employees and serves clients in financial services, quick commerce, and the public sector.
Sarvam has raised approximately $275 million in total funding — including a ~$41 million seed and Series A round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners — and carries a reported valuation of ₹13,200 crore, with further fundraising of $300–$350 million at ~$1.5 billion reportedly in discussion. In April 2025, the Government of India selected Sarvam under the IndiaAI Mission to build India's first sovereign LLM, awarding it the programme's largest compute subsidy (Rs 98.68 crore) for access to 4,096 Nvidia H100 GPUs. This deep government and enterprise focus makes Sarvam directly relevant to innovations in sovereign AI infrastructure, Indic language technology, and region-specific generative AI deployment.
