Scheu Dental GmbH

Scheu-Dental GmbH is a German manufacturer of dental technology products and services, headquartered at Am Burgberg 20 in Iserlohn, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a leading provider in dental pressure-forming (thermoforming) technology, dental sleep medicine, and 3D printing, with a platform spanning orthodontic technology, digital orthodontic instruments, and dental sleep medicine for dental practices and laboratories.

The company traces its roots to 1926, when dentist Rudolf Scheu founded the firm (reported as SCHEU & WITTMER or Wittmer & Scheu) together with Ewald Wittmer in Hagen. The founding innovation was cold moulding instead of soldering, which optimised the production of clasps. SCHEU-DENTAL has been at its Iserlohn location since 1964, expanding the facility four times. In 2020, SCHEU-DENTAL, SCHEU-DENTAL custom-made GmbH and SMILE Dental were combined into what is now presented as the SCHEU GROUP.

Its product lines include pressure-moulding technique, aligners, retainers, 3D printing, clasps and bars, orthodontics, the CA® Clear Aligner system, dental sleep medicine, and laboratory equipment. Its best-known equipment is the BIOSTAR thermoforming machine, a universal pressure-forming machine with a display-guided interface. Newer products include the UNIQ foil with the PROFESSIONAL aligner system and a tooth-coloured 3D retainer.

A long-standing family business, Scheu-Dental had a majority interest acquired by the Armira industry holding company in a 2019 transaction, with former majority shareholder Christian Scheu retaining a significant stake. Independent profiles list it as a private company with roughly 300 employees in the surgical/dental devices industry. Its focus on thermoforming, aligners, and 3D printing makes innovation in dental manufacturing directly relevant.
