Qualified members of school support teams addressing students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral well-being.
National Association of School PsychologistsSchool psychologists are professionals who diagnose and implement individual or schoolwide interventions to assist K–12 students. Their training spans mental health, learning, and behavior, allowing them to provide essential services such as assessment, counseling, and consultation within school settings.
In the United States, the profession is primarily represented by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential requires a specialist-level or doctoral graduate program, a supervised internship of approximately 1,200 hours, and passing the NASP Praxis exam.
There is a critical workforce shortage in this field. While NASP recommends a school psychologist-to-student ratio of 1:500, the national ratio is reported at approximately 1:1,211, making innovations in the space highly relevant to addressing these staffing gaps.
