Seed Health
A microbial sciences company developing bacterial applications for human and planetary health.
Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Venice, California, Seed Health is a microbial sciences company led by co-CEOs Ara Katz and Raja Dhir. The company utilizes a science-first approach to develop microbiome breakthroughs, operating both a consumer brand and a biotech foundry model.
Its consumer brand, Seed®, offers clinically validated probiotics such as the DS-01® Daily Synbiotic and PDS-08® Pediatric Daily Synbiotic. The company has achieved profitability as a bioscience startup and expanded its reach through a retail partnership with Target.
Beyond consumer products, Seed Health employs a "foundry model" to support academic partnerships with capital, regulatory consulting, and clinical trial support. This model led to the creation of LUCA Biologics, which targets urinary tract infections, bacterial vaginosis, and preterm birth. In 2024, the company also launched CODA, a computational biology platform for microbiome research.
