Shatterproof

Shatterproof is a U.S.-based national nonprofit founded in 2012 by Gary Mendell after the loss of his son Brian to addiction. Headquartered in Norwalk, CT, with a staff of 51–200 employees, the organization works to transform addiction systems, support families, and end stigma surrounding substance use disorders. It holds a 4/4 Star rating on Charity Navigator.

The organization advances evidence-based solutions across prevention, treatment, and recovery, and has been influential in 25 bills being signed into law across 18 states, as well as shaping federal legislation and CDC opioid prescribing guidelines. Its current policy priorities include payment reform, addiction training and education, and opioid litigation settlements.

Shatterproof operates several flagship programs: Treatment Atlas (ATLAS), described as the nation's first free platform to measure and compare addiction treatment quality; Just Five, a digital stigma-reduction and education program; and the Movement to End Addiction Stigma, developed in partnership with McKinsey & Company and The Public Good Projects, drawing on research into 11 analogous social change movements.
