World's largest professional association dedicated to human resource management

SHRM – About SHRM

SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) is a nonprofit professional association headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, founded in 1948 originally as the American Society for Personnel Administration. It is the world's largest HR-focused membership organization, serving nearly 340,000 members across 180 countries and influencing more than 362 million workers and families globally. Over 90% of Fortune 500 companies have SHRM members, and the organization operates 575 affiliated chapters in the United States.

SHRM offers flagship professional certifications (SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP), conducts workforce research and thought leadership, hosts major annual conferences, and engages in nonpartisan public policy advocacy at federal, state, and local levels on issues including workforce development, immigration, and healthcare. The organization is led by President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., who joined in 2017.

As of June 2025, SHRM has been actively calling on companies to address the human impact of artificial intelligence through communication, training, and reskilling initiatives—while emphasizing that leadership and culture remain more important predictors of workplace success than AI adoption alone. This focus makes SHRM a highly relevant voice for any innovation targeting HR professionals, workforce transformation, or AI-driven workplace change.
