Transport & Environment – About Us

Transport & Environment (T&E), formally the European Federation for Transport and Environment, is a Brussels-based umbrella organisation founded in 1990. It represents around 51 member organisations across 24 European countries, with staff offices in Brussels, Rome, Paris, Madrid, London, Warsaw, and Berlin. Its network collectively represents more than 3.5 million people across Europe.

T&E's mission is to achieve zero-emission mobility and energy systems that are sustainable, affordable, and secure, with minimal impacts on health, climate, and the environment. It pursues this through evidence-based research and advocacy targeting EU and global transport and energy policy. As a politically independent non-profit, T&E places a strong emphasis on scientific credibility.

Its policy focus spans vehicle emissions standards, aviation, shipping, and biofuels. Over more than 30 years, T&E has shaped significant EU environmental legislation, including helping set what it describes as the world's most ambitious CO₂ standards for cars and trucks. It coordinates the International Coalition for Sustainable Aviation (ICSA), which holds ICAO observer status, and is a member of the Clean Shipping Coalition, which holds IMO observer status.

Innovations related to zero-emission transport, clean fuels, electric vehicles, or sustainable aviation and shipping are directly relevant to T&E's core advocacy work and research agenda, particularly as it monitors developments such as the EU's evolving 2035 car CO₂ targets.
