TÜV Rheinland – About Us (Official Site)

TÜV Rheinland is a German multinational headquartered in Cologne that provides testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) services across a wide range of industries. Founded in 1872 as the "Verein zur Überwachung der Dampfkessel" (Steam Boiler Monitoring Association), the organization gradually expanded from steam boilers to elevators, pressure vessels, vehicles, and beyond. TÜV Rheinland AG was formally incorporated in 1993 and is 100% owned by TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V., a registered association.

The company operates from approximately 500 locations in more than 50 countries, employing 28,550 people worldwide as of end-2025, with two-thirds of its workforce based outside Germany. It generated revenue of €2.98 billion in fiscal year 2025—a 9.7% increase year-on-year—and reported an operating profit (EBIT) of €242 million. Of the three main competing TÜV groups in Germany, TÜV Rheinland is considered the most internationally oriented.

Services are organized into four business units: Industrial Service & Cyber Security, Mobility, Products, and People & Business Assurance. Key activities include technical safety inspections of nearly 8.6 million vehicles annually, photovoltaic module testing, renewable energy certifications, and cybersecurity consulting and certification. The company has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2006.

As a leading global TIC provider, TÜV Rheinland is directly relevant to innovations in product safety, industrial risk management, cybersecurity standards, sustainable energy certification, and regulatory compliance across sectors worldwide.
