TÜV Rheinland – About Us (official site)

TÜV Rheinland is a leading global testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) organization headquartered in Cologne, Germany. Founded on October 31, 1872 as the Verein zur Überwachung der Dampfkessel (Steam Boiler Monitoring Association) in Wuppertal, the company has grown over 150 years into a diversified assurance provider operating from 500 locations in more than 50 countries with 25,900 employees worldwide.

The organization bundles its services into four business units: Industrial Service & Cyber Security, Mobility, Products, and People & Business Assurance. These span testing and inspection of products, plants, and processes, as well as professional training and certification. Recent strategic acquisitions include Swedish vehicle inspection service Bilprovningen and its subsidiary SMP, added at end of 2024.

In 2024, TÜV Rheinland reported revenue of €2.71 billion — an 11.2% year-over-year increase — with an EBIT of €214.8 million. International business accounted for more than half of total revenue (52.4%), with the strongest growth in India, the Middle East and Africa, and Greater China. The company has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2006.

As a global authority on safety, quality, and compliance, TÜV Rheinland is highly relevant to innovations in product certification, cybersecurity assurance, industrial safety, and mobility inspection — areas where independent third-party validation is increasingly critical for market access and regulatory compliance.
