UNICEF Brazil

UNICEF Brazil is the country office of the United Nations Children's Fund, established in Brazil in 1950 and headquartered in Brasília. Operating across 9 offices nationwide, it works to advance child rights, educational inclusion, and the eradication of child labour and domestic violence, with particular focus on the most vulnerable and excluded children and adolescents.

The organisation concentrates its efforts in regions of greatest need — the Amazon, the semi-arid Northeast, and large urban centres — and partners with educators, community organisations, civil society, the private sector, and government. It also supports migrant children from Venezuela, many of whom arrive in Brazil unaccompanied, helping them access healthcare, education, and social protection.

UNICEF Brazil's flagship UNICEF Seal and #AgendaCidadeUNICEF programmes reach nearly 2,000 municipalities in the Legal Amazon and Semi-arid Region, plus 15 Brazilian capitals. In 2024, 923 cities in the North and Northeast were recognised for measurably improving public services for children across immunisation, education, and protection from violence. The organisation also supports climate adaptation efforts to strengthen the resilience of social services.

The current country programme runs from March 2024 to December 2028, with an approved budget of approximately $127.7 million (combining regular and other resources). UNICEF Brazil is funded entirely through voluntary contributions from individuals, governments, civil society, and private-sector partners — making private-sector engagement and innovative funding mechanisms directly relevant to its mission.
