The Università degli Studi di Milano (UniMi), known colloquially as La Statale, is a public research university founded in 1924 in Milan, Italy. It was established by Luigi Mangiagalli through the merger of the Accademia Scientifico-Letteraria (active since 1861) and the Istituti Clinici di Perfezionamento, and is headquartered in the historic Ca' Granda, a Renaissance building in central Milan.

With approximately 64,878 students and over 2,500 permanent teaching and research staff, UniMi is the largest university in Lombardy and one of the largest in Europe. It operates ten schools offering 140 undergraduate and graduate programmes, 32 doctoral schools, and more than 65 specialization schools across disciplines including humanities, law, medicine, pharmacy, natural sciences, agriculture, and veterinary medicine.

UniMi is the only Italian member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and also participates in the 4EU+ European University Alliance. It ranks #276 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and #301–350 in the Times Higher Education Rankings 2025, with particular strength in Veterinary Sciences (#9 globally in ARWU 2025), Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (#31), and Biotechnology (#47).

The university is actively expanding its footprint through a new science campus within the Milan Innovation District (MInD), built on the former Expo 2015 site.
