Established in 1937 by the German Labour Front, Volkswagen was revived after World War II by British Army officer Ivan Hirst and grew into a global brand over the following decades. The parent, Volkswagen AG, is a publicly traded company (DAX component, ticker VOW3), with Hans Dieter Pötsch as chairman of the supervisory board and Oliver Blume as chairman of the board of management.
The group operates 100 production facilities across 27 countries. Its automotive brands include Audi, Bentley, Cupra, Ducati, Jetta, Lamborghini, Porsche, Scout, SEAT, Škoda and Volkswagen, alongside commercial-vehicle brands such as MAN, Scania and VW Commercial Vehicles. Production output reached 9.03 million units in 2024.
