Volkswagen AG (Volkswagen Group) is a German multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, Germany, founded in 1937. It is publicly traded and majority-controlled by Porsche SE, which is in turn controlled by the Austrian-German Porsche-Piëch family. The Group sells passenger cars under brands including Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Škoda, SEAT, Cupra, and Jetta, motorcycles under Ducati, and light commercial vehicles under Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

In 2024, Volkswagen Group was the largest company in the European Union and the largest car manufacturer in the world by revenue, generating €324.7 billion in sales revenue and delivering 9.0 million vehicles globally. It ranked 11th on the 2024 Fortune Global 500 and has held the largest market share in Europe for over two decades. The Group operates 115 production facilities across 27 countries and conducts business in 153 countries worldwide.

As of mid-2025, the Group employed approximately 635,855 active workers (667,190 including Chinese joint ventures). The 2024 financial year was also marked by significant restructuring, including an agreement to cut more than 35,000 jobs amid planned plant closures in Germany.

VW's strategy, "Mobility for Generations," targets becoming "The Global Automotive Tech Driver" by 2035. Electric vehicle order intake in Western Europe grew 88% in FY 2024. The Group established a dedicated AI Lab in January 2024 and debuted vehicles with ChatGPT integration at CES 2024, making AI and electrification central to its innovation agenda.
