World Agroforestry About PageWorld Agroforestry, originally established as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) in 1978, is a CGIAR Research Center. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, the organization operates globally across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with offices in over 20 countries and activities in more than 60 countries.
In 2019, ICRAF merged with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) to form CIFOR-ICRAF. This merger consolidated scientific expertise to address climate change, land degradation, food security, and rural livelihoods. The organization focuses on delivering research-based solutions for the sustainable management of forests, trees, and agricultural landscapes.
Key research areas include agroforestry systems, soil health, climate-smart agriculture, biodiversity, and land restoration. As part of the CGIAR global research partnership, ICRAF works to balance environmental health with human well-being to reduce poverty and enhance food security.
