A pulsed surgical laser built on an erbium-doped heavy-metal fluoride glass fiber that emits in the 2.8-3 micron band where water in tissue absorbs most strongly, enabling precise ablation and cutting through a flexible fiber handpiece with minimal collateral heat damage.
