The Kigali Amendment is an amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which is an international agreement addressing the issue of ozone depletion. The Montreal Protocol has undergone numerous changes and amendments since it entered into force in 1998. The Kigali Amendment was the agreement's eighth such amendment, and it went into effect on the 1st of January 2019. The amendment's agreement was signed in Kigali, Rwanda's capital, the agreement and thus the amendment was given that name.
